About Uptown Denver / City Park
The term “City Park” refers to both the actual 330 acre park of the same name, home to City Park Golf Course, Duck Lake, City Park Lake, the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, as well as the “area” as defined from Colfax Avenue north to 26th Avenue, and Colorado Blvd. west to York Street. City Park West, also known as Uptown, isn’t quite as clearly defined. Most will agree on three of the areas’ borders as York Street to the East, 23rd Avenue to the north, and Colfax Avenue to the south. However, some still consider Uptown to extend west only as far as Downing Street, some show it extending over to Washington Street on the northwest corner, down to 20th Avenue, then west to Logan Street. More recently, areas that would otherwise be defined as the southeastern tip of “Five Points” and “North Capitol Hill” have been also coined part of City Park West, or more commonly Uptown, extending the area all the way west to Broadway.
The architectural styles of homes and housing options throughout Uptown and City Park cover the entire spectrum from newly built high-rise projects and condo-conversions, to an abundance detached single-family homes. There are Victorians, Denver Squares, Queen Anne-style houses, bungalows, apartment complexes, and everything in-between.
The area is also home many of Denver’s hospitals, employing approximately 10,000 workers, as well as neighboring doctor’s offices, supply companies, and related businesses. Another part of these area’s personalities are the diverse mix in not only housing, but in shopping, dining, and more. Restaurants range from eclectic breakfast joints to fancy formal dinner fare. Mix in boutique shopping, some office buildings, some of the best small entertainment venues, a spa here or there, and a great park to enjoy a little nature relatively close to the city.
