About Baker District
Just touching the southern tip of the Golden Triangle is the classic Baker Historic district. It borders are up for debate and, as the popularity for the area has recently grown, the area referred to as Baker has grown with it. It’s bordered by 6th Avenue to the north down to Alameda and some say as far as Mississippi to the south, from Broadway to the east and Elati to the west. There again, some claim the area west to Santa Fe as the border, while many lump the area all the way west to the Platte River into Baker. Either way, the Landmark District (part of Denver’s Historic Preservation effort) is a much smaller area within these boundaries.
As you might expect, by some measures, Baker is the oldest neighborhood in Denver as it has the oldest stock of buildings in the city. The neighborhoods include everything from 19th century brick houses as well as some modern buildings and loft, condo, and townhome projects. The “neighborhood feel” coupled with its proximity to downtown has led to an obvious transformation of the area, while still preserving a great deal of the history it contains.
